meet the criteria related to diagnosis, severity of illness, or intensity of services
required for each unit.

Requirements
As a condition of hire, all associates are required to maintain current basic life
support (BLS).
All RN’s and LPN’s must possess a current, active license to practice in the State
of Georgia.
Adult Nursing Units
3 North (Comprehensive Stroke Center/ Neuroscience Unit)
3 North offers a full array of acute care services including, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Most of the neurology patient population consist of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes.
- Neurosurgery patient population are cervical and lumbar surgeries.
- Patients with diagnosis myasthenia gravis, multiple sclerosis, hydrocephalus, brain
tumors, and carotid enterectomy.
Requirements: All nurses on 3 North must also maintain Certification in the NIH Stroke Scale and
8 hours of stroke education per year.
Average Daily Census: 16 Ratio: 1 RN:4 patients, 1 PCT:8 patients

4 South (Surgical Unit)
4 South specializes in urological, orthopedic, bariatric, and kidney transplant patients.
Beds: 26 Ratio: 1 RN:5 Patients, 1 PCT:8 Patients Daily Census: 25 Patients

7 North (Surgical and Intermediate Care Unit)
7 North
Requirements: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
Beds: 16 Ratio: 1 RN:3 Patients, 1 PCT:8 Patients Daily Census: 10 Patients

4 West (Trauma, Critical, and Acute Surgical Care)
The Trauma/ Orthopedic Surgical and Medicine Unit. 4 West is a part of the Level I
Trauma Center. We also have a designated Total Brain Injury (TBI) rehabilitation room.
We see:
- Trauma, major
- Unspecified closed fractures
- Motor vehicular accident
- Traumatic pneumothorax
- Closed Head (Total Brain) injury
- Medical/Surgical patients
Expectations for nurses:
- Provision of patient care through the use of the nursing process to include assessment
establishment of nursing diagnoses, care planning, evaluation, and reassessment based
on standards of care.
- Interdisciplinary care planning.
- Continuous oxygen saturation and remote telemetry monitoring
- Medication administration to include oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous
routes
- Intravenous therapy administered through peripheral and central lines including but
not limited to heparin, electrolytes
- Management of chest tubes
- Management of urinary, gastrointestinal, and wound drainage devices
- Management of vascular access devices
- Administration of blood and blood products.
- Enteral and parenteral nutritional support.
- Pain management to include the use of patient controlled and epidural analgesia
- Skin and wound management
- Patient and family education
- Patient monitoring to include vital signs and non-invasive blood pressure

5 West (Adult Intermediate Care Hybrid Unit)
5 West nurses work with hospitalist and medicine teams to care for a diverse medical population
including patients with:
- Cardiac conditions
- Neurological conditions
- Pulmonary conditions
- Covid
Beds: 32 beds - medicine unit Ratio: 1 RN:5 patients, 1 PTC:10 patients Daily Census: 30

6 IMC (Intermediate Care Unit)
6IMC provides transitional care to patients who - while stable - still require a high degree
of support and monitoring. The IMCU patient population consists of patients with a
wide range of medical conditions, including but not limited to:
- Respiratory disorders
- Multi-organ dysfunction syndrome
- Ventilator and tracheostomy management
- Drug overdose and alcohol withdrawal
- Endocrine emergencies
- Renal failure
- Acute pulmonary edema or embolism
Beds: 15 beds Ratio: 1:3 (nurse-to-patient)

6 North (Cardiovascular Intermediate Care Unit)
Requirements: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
Specializes in caring for post-op cardiothoracic and cardiology patients admitted
from ICU, ED, cath lab, EP lab, or directly admitted for continued cardiovascular
monitoring. The cardiovascular population includes patients status post coronary
artery revascularization, post coronary bypass graft surgery, valve replacement surgery/TAVR,
chest pain management, NSTEMI.
Common medical procedures and therapies performed on the unit include:
- Continuous cardiac monitoring
- Arterial line management
- Sheath removals post procedure
- Long term ventilator management
- Titration of cardiac infusion therapy

7 and 8 South (Med-Surg Unit)
The 7 and 8 South are made up of 50 beds - 7 South is the only med-surg unit that receives fresh airway and flap patients from the OR
and 8 South is the only unit with adult cystic fibrosis patients. Specialties include:
- ENT
- Plastic surgery
- Cystic fibrosis
- Internal medicine
Recommended for 7 South: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

5 North (Inpatient Oncology) and 5 South (Bone Marrow Transplant)
Specially-trained chemotherapy /immunotherapy nurses deliver outstanding care to oncology
patients.
Requirements: All RNs are required to obtain Chemotherapy/ Immunotherapy Provider Certification
within 18-months of hire (or sooner if eligible) to 5 North as chemotherapy administration
and side effect management is an integral component of oncology nursing. The RN is
expected to begin training for administration of chemotherapy or immunotherapy after
six months of hire or transfer to 5 North.
Competency will be demonstrated through completion of Chemotherapy/Oncology specific
educational modules and direct observation of safe administration of chemotherapy
and immunotherapy
5 North (5N) is an oncology med-surg unit for oncology patients. Caring for patients through diagnosis,
treatment, and end-of-life.
Beds: 20 beds
5 South (5BMT) is our bone marrow transplant and intermediate oncology unit is a FACT accredited,
providing care to leukemia and cellular therapy patients from across the state.
