What is physical and occupational therapy?

Physical and occupational therapy focus on functional activities, helping you to regain your strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and endurance.

Our therapists assess strength and work with patients to develop personal goals and a treatment plan. Our services include rehabilitation for:

  • Stroke
  • Hand and upper extremity dysfunction, using the Greenleaf Hand Impairment Evaluation System
  • Foot, ankle and lower extremity dysfunction
  • Spine conditions
  • Sports injuries
  • Movement disorders, including LSVT BIG training for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders 
  • Vestibular or balance dysfunctions, using Computerized Dynamic Posturography and other specialized vestibular and balance rehabilitation such as the NeuroCom Balance Master
  • Musculoskeletal problems, using the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy and BTE PrimusRS equipment
  • Other general orthopaedic and neurological conditions

What is speech therapy?

Speech-language therapy focuses on the following areas:

  • Producing speech sounds clearly
  • Speech rhythm and fluency problems, such as stuttering
  • Appropriate pitch and tone
  • Understanding and producing language
  • Cognitive communication skills, such as attention, memory and problem solving
  • Swallowing

Speech-language pathologists (SLP), sometimes called speech therapists, assess, diagnose, treat and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing and fluency.
