Pediatric Ophthalmology

1220 West Wheeler Parkway, Suite F

Augusta, GA 30909

Your child’s precious eyesight requires the careful attention of a pediatric specialist who understands just how to treat and care for children. If your pediatrician or other care provider has suggested that your child should have his or her eyes checked, Pediatric Ophthalmology at West Wheeler is here for you.

As part of the Children’s Hospital of Georgia system, our eye clinic is staffed by one of CHOG’s region’s-only board-certified pediatric ophthalmologists. We offer the broadest range of treatment options and experience in caring for specific (and sometimes rare) eye disorders from birth to age 18, such as:

  • Strabismus, or eye misalignment
  • Amblyopia or lazy eye
  • Syndromes with ocular manifestations, including Down syndrome, neurofibromatosis and other neurologic issues
  • Cataracts

Our practice will also evaluate the need for reoperations for under- or over-corrections.

Eye Care Just for Kids

Our child-friendly waiting area and specially trained staff help make your child feel comfortable during his or her visit. For new patients, we conduct age-appropriate vision testing along with a comprehensive eye exam, including dilation; please make sure to plan for two hours for this first appointment.

Following this initial evaluation and assessment of ocular anatomy, we will discuss your child’s treatment options, which could include medications, glasses prescription, patching (for lazy eye) or surgery.

All surgical procedures take place at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Prior to surgery, we will carefully review with you what to expect, where to go and how to prepare your child.
