Dr. Farkas earned her medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago/Cook County Hospital. She received fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Farkas initially practiced as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh. After elevating to Associate Professor, she joined Duke University as Co-Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Prior to joining Augusta University, she served as the inaugural Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Additionally, Dr. Farkas was instrumental in helping UC Davis Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas achieve their national accreditations for Rectal Cancer. She is experienced in colonic neoplasms, robotic and laparoscopic surgery and trans anal approaches .
