About UGA College of Pharmacy at AU

The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, located in Athens, Georgia, functions as a 2 + 2 system.  All students in the first two years attend classes on the Athens campus.  For the second two years, students have the option of attending a satellite campus, one of which is in Augusta located on the AU Campus.  This satellite is the oldest and largest of the satellite campuses.

Third year students finish their didactic requirements with UGA faculty located on the AU Campus and via distance learning technology.  They also participate in introductory pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs) that have been identified as high-value services by AU Medical Center. Participation in this IPPE allows students to provide a valuable service to patients and our partner health system, to gain experience in an institutional setting, to contribute to pharmacy services as part of the healthcare team, and to enhance the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom through practical application.  Activities will include medication education, medication histories, and medication reconciliation.   There are approximately 30 third year pharmacy students with us in Augusta.

Fourth year pharmacy students participate in advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs).  They can be found everywhere we have pharmacists practicing direct patient care on multi-disciplinary teams.  Our students regularly interact with students in all the healthcare training programs at AU.  This provides an excellent environment for interprofessional education. (IPE).  There are approximately 40 fourth year pharmacy students with us in Augusta participating in APPEs.

The UGA College of Pharmacy also participate in a number of IPE activities throughout the year on the AU campus and the Athens campus.
