Updated COVID-19 guidelines

AU Health is updating its visitation policy, we are now following guidelines for Low Rate COVID-19 in the Augusta area:

  • No support persons with patients with COVID-19 while on active precautions.
  • Families, partners in care, and guests are welcome 24 hours a day according to patient preference, no mask required (or staff PPE as required by the infection prevention plan).
  • Hand hygiene required upon entering the facility and all patient care areas.
  • No limitations on in-person gatherings/meetings.

At Augusta University Health, we encourage family and friends to stay with patients as their guests—whenever a patient chooses, 24/7, so long as we can safely provide care. This is why we don’t have visiting hours. We call it Family Presence, with family defined as anyone you consider part of your family.

After-hours access to hospitals

To access to our hospitals after 9:00 p.m. you will need to use Entrance F near the Emergency Department on Harper Street.

Family members play an important role in the healing process, helping patients ask the right questions and make their health care decisions; assisting with care, like feeding or walking; or just being there for emotional support. Here are other ways families can help:

  • Understand that we may, at times, ask you to step outside so that we can safely care for your loved one.
  • Help keep common areas and patient rooms quiet and restful to promote a place of healing.
  • Ask us about staying overnight in the hospital or for suggestions of area hotels or accommodations.
  • For large families, pick a family spokesperson to help ease communication.
  • If you have a cold or other illness, please plan to come only when you’re well again to help protect all of our patients. During flu season, we may ask that children stay at home to help avoid the risk of flu exposure for patients who are already immuno-compromised. Children should also be up to date with all immunizations.
  • Please, for their safety, make sure children are always supervised by an adult.
  • Be respectful and kind to each other, other guests, other patients and staff.
