Our Approach

Whether you have an ingrown toenail, have suffered a broken bone, or have a condition like diabetes that requires specialize foot care, our doctors are prepared to get you back on your feet.

The surgical podiatrist at Augusta University cares for injuries and diseases that affect the foot and ankle in both adults and children. We offer,

  • Multidisciplinary care: Our podiatrists work with residency-trained foot surgeons, diabetes specialists, and physical therapists to coordinate care for your foot or ankle problems.
  • Diabetic Wound Care: We provide comprehensive diabetic wound care, addressing both the foot ulcers and the structural issues within the foot.
  • Advanced Bone Preparation and Fixation Techniques: We continue to be first in the area to use specific techniques and hardware to fix bones, allowing for earlier weight bearing so you can walk again more quickly.

Foot and ankle health are essential because being able to walk without pain and discomfort are vital to how we get around. We see many kinds of conditions including:

  • Orthopedic conditions of the bones and muscles, such as plantar fasciitis, bunions, corns and fractured or infected bones. 
  • Neurological conditions nerve problems in the feet including, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, foot drop, or Morton’s neuroma.
  • Dermatological conditions are skin and nail problems affecting the feet such as plantar warts, diabetic ulcers, or fungal nail infections. 

We offer both in-office treatment, for minor foot and ankle conditions, as well as, major surgeries for complex foot issues. Some of the treatments we offer are:

  • Bracing, of toes, foot or ankle to provide stabilization to help with healing and prevent reinjury.
  • Injections, of steroids for relief of pain in areas like the heel.  We use a specialized technique so the injections hurt less.
  • Physical Therapy, specific to feet and ankles, at our rehabilitation center, to help patients strengthen muscles, improve motion and increase flexibility.
  • Foot and Ankle Surgery, we perform complex surgical techniques for musculoskeletal issues, tumors and infections.
