Float pool nurses have the unique opportunity to work anywhere in our hospitals, assisting wherever they are most needed. Since these nurses "float" throughout the hospital, they get to have different experiences every day, which helps keep nursing skills sharp and fresh.

Overview

Float pool nurses at Augusta University Health work with adult or pediatric patients. Float pool nurses will be assigned to a specific nursing unit at the beginning of each shift. Nursing units may request float pool assistance if:

  • Another employee is on sick leave.
  • There is a position vacancy in a unit.
  • There is an increase in unit census and/or patient acuity.

As a float pool nurse, you join a group of experienced registered nurses that provide direct patient care support to:

  • Adult and pediatric medical/surgical units
  • Critical care nursing units
  • Procedural areas
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Outpatient clinics

Float pool nurses are not responsible for patients requiring specialized care; for example, patients receiving total joint replacements, kidney transplants, or those on critical drips in an ICU will not be included in your daily assignment.
