Stroke Care Anywhere

Reaching Out. Saving Lives.

A nationally recognized telemedicine service founded at Augusta University known as REACH Health is making neurological consults more available to patients in rural areas. This pioneering telemedicine service lets neurologists at Augusta University Medical Center diagnose and treat stroke patients at member hospitals from anywhere, at any time, through a standard computer, webcam and broadband internet connection.

When people in rural areas throughout the 13 county CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) and beyond suffer stroke, only a small percentage receive the most effective care, a medication known as tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) that dissolves clots if given within three hours of the onset of stroke. Emergency room physicians are better able to administer this medication after consulting with one of Augusta University's neurologists via this innovative telemedicine program.

By making world-class neurological expertise quickly available 24/7, the HIPAA-compliant service:

  • Eliminates travel time
  • Speeds the treatment process
  • Reduces death and disability from stroke
