About

Infectious Disease (ID) Care is the investigation and management of infections caused by microorganisms.  AU Health cares for adults (ages 16 and above) with new, persistent, or recurrent infections caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

Infectious diseases can attack anyone, even the young and healthy, but immunocompromised patients (such as those with diabetes or with chronic kidney disease) are at higher risk of contracting and succumbing to them. If you become sick, the infectious disease experts at Augusta University Health's Infectious Disease Clinic are here to get you well again.

The infectious disease specialists at AU Health work with your primary care physician and other specialty providers to diagnose and treat a wide variety of commonly known, rare or suspected infectious diseases.  We are home to the area’s top Infectious Disease doctors and are available for referral from your primary providers. We offer:

  • Full patient assessments:  When you come to us, we conduct epidemiologic, immunologic and anatomic assessments to determine the etiology of your illness.
  • Expertise in treating immunocompromised patients: It is extremely important to effectively treat infections in these patients. We care for difficult ID cases in patients with weakened immune systems.
