About

Infectious Disease (ID) Care is the investigation and management of infections caused by microorganisms.  AU Health cares for adults (ages 16 and above) with new, persistent, or recurrent infections caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

Infectious diseases can attack anyone, even the young and healthy, but immunocompromised patients (such as those with diabetes or with chronic kidney disease) are at higher risk of contracting and succumbing to them. If you become sick, the infectious disease experts at Augusta University Health's Infectious Disease Clinic are here to get you well again.

The infectious disease specialists at AU Health work with your primary care physician and other specialty providers to diagnose and treat a wide variety of commonly known, rare or suspected infectious diseases.  We are home to the area’s top Infectious Disease doctors and are available for referral from your primary providers. We offer:

  • Full patient assessments:  When you come to us, we conduct epidemiologic, immunologic and anatomic assessments to determine the etiology of your illness.
  • Expertise in treating immunocompromised patients: It is extremely important to effectively treat infections in these patients. We care for difficult ID cases in patients with weakened immune systems.
  • Targeted diagnostics: We use state-of-the-art labs and imaging diagnostics to to ensure more timely and accurate diagnoses.
  • Pharmacologic, behavioral, and immunologic interventions: We have strong integration with our antimicrobial stewardship pharmacy team to ensure we are using the most up-to-date, effective, and safe medications in your care.
  • Access to clinical trials: We are continuously enrolling patients in new and cutting-edge NIH or WHO-funded research studies.
