Cardiothoracic Surgery

Surgeons who operate on the heart, lungs, esophagus, diaphragm, blood vessels, and other chest organs are referred to as cardiothoracic surgeons. The cardiothoracic surgeons at Augusta University Cardiovascular Center for Heart Care are committed to providing adults and children with cardiovascular diseases and congenital heart defects with the most compassionate and advanced level of diagnostic and surgical care.

Minimally Invasive Atrial Fibrillation Surgery

The surgical team at Augusta University Cardiovascular Center for Heart Care is the only one in the region to offer minimally invasive atrial fibrillation surgery. Also referred to as “mini maze,” this procedure allows us to correct electrical irregularities in the atria without having to conduct open-heart surgery.

This specialized surgery is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 2 to 3 hours to complete and offers fewer potential complications as well as a much shorter hospital stay than with open-heart surgery.
