Our Approach

A multidisciplinary team of physicians, physician assistants, nurse educators and dietitians provides comprehensive care of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We manage diabetes based on a rigorously controlled 10-year national study showing that improving blood glucose can prevent or delay eye, kidney and nervous system complications by 60 percent.

Through twice-a-month educational classes and other efforts, emphasis is placed on patient education to develop self-management skills critical to improving everyday health and blood sugar levels reducing future chronic diabetic complications. Patients have access to a wide range of specialists within the Augusta University Medical Center who have expertise in the management of diabetes. Additionally, the center offers professional education, community, outreach, specialized diabetes consultative services and diabetes research.
