Dr. Ishrat Bhat is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at Augusta University. He practices in-patient psychiatry at East Central Regional Hospital through its partnership with Augusta University, where he is also involved in training of residents and medical students. Dr. Bhat came to Augusta from Kansas City VA Medical Center where he was working as a Geriatric Psychiatrist.
Dr. Ishrat Bhat has completed his medical school training in Government Medical College, Srinagar in India. After completing his medical school he came to the United States and went through residency training in Psychiatry at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He also completed Geriatric Psychiatry training at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is double board certified in General Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also a member of American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association (GPPA). Dr. Bhat’s academic and research interests include geriatric psychiatry, cognitive impairment in schizophrenia and exploring targets for treatment of aggression in schizophrenia.
