Meet our Director, Rabii Madi, MD
In planning the Center for Advanced Robotics Surgery, executives at Medical Center at Augusta University sought a renowned physician-director with the experience, vision and skills to build and maintain a world-class facility.
They found all that and more in Rabii Madi, MD, a urologic oncologist and the former Director of Robotic Surgery at University Hospital’s Case Medical Center in Cleveland.
Dr. Madi has performed more than 400 robotic surgeries and written more than 40 abstracts and articles on the topic. Renowned in the surgical treatment of prostate, kidney and bladder cancers, he pioneered single-setting robotic surgery for patients who have both prostate and kidney cancer.
His expertise also includes single-incision kidney removals. And Dr. Madi is one of only a few physicians nationwide who perform robotic salvage prostatectomy, which is often necessary when prostate cancer recurs after radiation treatment.
Dr. Madi was instrumental in developing the center, which will centralize robotic surgery in specialties including otolaryngology, urogynecology, gynecological oncology and urology. He will also direct its operations and expand our robotic surgery offerings, an area that is rapidly becoming the standard of surgical care for some specialties. As a result, patients will experience less down time and enjoy comparable or even better outcomes.
Dr. Madi earned his medical degree from KURSK State Medical University in Russia and completed a urology residency at the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Lebanon. He completed a clinical fellowship in urologic oncology and laparoscopy at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
He is a member of the American Urological Association and the Society of Urologic Oncology. He also is a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Urology Oncology, Journal of EndoUrology and Journal of Robotic Surgery.
