The Revd. Dr. W. Jeffrey Flowers
The Revd. Dr. Jeff Flowers is the Director of Pastoral Care at the Medical Center at Augusta University. Born in North Carolina, he is married to Ms. Tami T. Flowers, a graduate of Augusta State University with a Master of Education Leadership Degree, and he is the father of two children, Angela, and Ryan.
Chaplain Flowers received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religion from Mars Hill College in 1981. He was awarded the Master of Divinity degree in 1984 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and completed eight units of Clinical Pastoral Education at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Following his CPE certification, Chaplain Flowers served as the Director of Pastoral Care for the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation from 1984-1990 and as Chaplain Coordinator for the Baylor University Medical Center from 1990-1994.
Chaplain Flowers became the Director of Pastoral Care at Medical Center at Augusta University in September of 1994 and serves in this position currently. In May of 2005 he completed doctoral work through Erskine Theological Seminary and was granted the Doctor of Ministry degree with a dissertation focusing on the education of health care workers concerning the spiritual nature of illness.
Chaplain Flowers is a Board Certified Chaplain in the Association of Professional Chaplains. He has served on several local and national boards for various charitable organizations and most recently on the Georgia Hospital Associations Board of Chaplains, Board of Directors for Georgia Health Decisions, Board of Directors for Shepeard Community Blood Center, and the Board of The Institute for Religion and Health. Currently he serves as the state representative of the Professional Advocacy Board for the Association of Professional Chaplains in the State of Georgia. He is a member of the International Critical Incident Stress Management Foundation and Certified Trauma Counselor. Endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Chaplain Flowers is an ordained minister. He has published several articles in the area of spirituality and health care and is a contributing author for Palliative Care for Infants, Children, and Adolescents: A Practical Handbook.
For fun, Chaplain Flowers enjoys playing golf, riding his bicycle, and watching sports of all kinds. AND….on April 14, 2011, he had his first Hole in One!
